Givens and Druthers
February 22nd, 2009Model railroad planning master John Armstrong would always ask a prospective layout builder what would they require and a pre-requisite for building a model railroad…
1. Need a steel mill. It can be compressed to accommodate some of the buildings that I have already built
2. Walk in design- getting too old for duckunders
3. Potential for continuous running on double track main.
4. Cityscape
5. Track in the streets running
6. Mountains / hills with rock faces
7. Tunnel portals
8. No reach further than 30 inches
9. A bridge over a river / pond / bay
10. Some sort of yard (this will have to be added later in another phase)
Operation to me is not as important as modeling and watching trains run. There is no need to waste DCC on me- regular old block control with DC will be just fine and I hope that they continue to make DC locomotives.
