Furnace “B”

February 1st, 2009

Approach to Furnace “B”. Moving toward the furnace with two hot metal cars. This shot was modified in PhotoShop to add a realistic sky and atmospheric haze. As compared with the rest of my layout, most of my steel mill has been scratchbuilt except for the electric furnace- which is a pair of Walther’s products.

From the furnace to the rolling mill and other structures, nothing was kit built. There is a crane that can be seen in upcoming pictures that was built from components of other products, but little is recognizable. The two small hot metal cars that the switcher is pushing were created from old ore cars that I re-purposed.

In the last several months in late 2008 I re-purposed a room that originally began as a train room then migrated into a bedroom for a while. Rather than forego my original plans, I gave the bedroom furniture the boot and made a railroad.

There are a few pictures here for your review.
